FAQ

What does Showdown do?

Showdown provides vetted audio visual labor for live events across the United States. Rather than renting equipment, Showdown supplies the trained technicians — audio engineers, lighting designers, video engineers, camera operators, stagehands, and project managers — who run it, working alongside a client’s existing gear, venue, or production company.

What AV services does Showdown provide?

Showdown supplies audio engineers (A1), lighting designers (L1), video engineers (V1), camera operators, video assistants, show callers and stage managers, project managers, general stagehands for set and strike, and LED wall build/strike support.

What does a Project Manager do on an AV crew?

A Showdown Project Manager is the on-site operations lead and the main point of contact between the client, the crew, and venue management. They handle pre-production planning, gear orders, load-in schedules, oversee the crew and equipment on-site, and are assigned based on the scale of the event — from a single meeting room to a large exhibit hall or general session.

What cities does Showdown serve?

Showdown provides AV technicians in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Orange County, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; Denver, Colorado; and Phoenix, Arizona, along with the surrounding metro areas in each region. In addition, Showdown can travel technicians anywhere.

What types of events does Showdown support?

Showdown supports corporate events such as conferences, conventions, and trade shows, celebrations including weddings, worship services and concerts. If technical audio/visual talent is required, Showdown can help.

How are Showdown’s technicians vetted?

Every technician Showdown sends to an event is screened for both technical skill and professional, client-facing demeanor before being placed on a job. Showdown is built around the idea that a technically skilled crew member must also represent a client well on-site. We manage detailed client feedback for each technician, and complete a video interview with ever technician before adding them to our Showdown crew. We don’t just screen for technical skill – we also screen for customer service skills, problem solving, and professionalism.

How do I request AV crew for an event?

Clients can submit an event request directly through the “Request Services” page. A member of the Showdown team will follow up to scope the event, confirm the roles needed, and assign a crew. Be sure to include the dates for your event, the location, the quantity of each role and call times for each role. If you can add a gear list as well, that will help us confirm the perfect technician to support you.

Does Showdown provide AV equipment, or only labor?

Showdown is a labor company — it supplies the skilled technicians who operate, build, and strike audio, lighting, and video systems. It does not rent out equipment directly, and typically works alongside a client’s own gear, a venue’s house system, or an equipment-rental or production partner.

How can I work as an AV technician with Showdown?

Technicians interested in working with Showdown can apply through the “Work With Us” page on sdshowdown.com. Applicants are evaluated on both technical experience and professionalism before being added to the crew roster for events in their region.
